Help to improve understanding,
application and, most importantly, grades
Bob Sutherland
.Testimonials.
Whilst
I am only too happy to try and assist with last
minute cramming for an exam, it is usually much
better to support students' work over a longer
period. This avoids a last-minute panic and
provides time to address any weaknesses in a
meaningful way. I have found some students to
have fundamental arithmetic weaknesses which have
undermined all their subsequent efforts and these
weaknesses take time to sort out.

CRB checking
I am not CRB checked because
it is not possible for an individual to request
such a check. See:
http://www.crb.gov.uk/using_the_website/application_process.aspx#whocan
but I am perfectly willing
to undergo the process
if you are able to request it. When the new
Independent Safeguarding Authority is phased in I
shall be applying for registration (sometime in
2010).

ALL SCHOOL MATHS EXAMS
ARE GETTING EASIER, RIGHT?
Have
Maths examinations got easier? Back in the
1960s, when I took my exams, Maths was
probably the most feared of all
GCE O Levels. Here are some
example papers from then, compare them with
todays GCSEs and draw your own conclusions.

Two
different sets of papers are shown here. The
first is the Cambridge University International
GCSE papers. These are generally regarded as harder
than the normal GCSE:
